A Queensland man was charged with numerous offences relating to the supply of prohibited drugs and the cultivation of cannabis plants.
He was involved in a sophisticated hydroponic setup in Raymond Terrace.
Negotiations were had with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which resulted in two charges being dropped and Ms Regan’s client pleading guilty to taking part in the cultivation of cannabis plants. By reducing the number and seriousness of charges, this already significantly improves his chances of avoiding full time custody.
Ms Regan’s client assisted police by providing information about other parties involved in the cultivation and cannabis – leading to a discount being applied for his assistance with the authorities.
In the Newcastle District Court, Ms Regan appeared and made persuasive submissions to the court as to why her client should remain in the community and not be sentenced to a term of imprisonment.
The Judge was ultimately convinced, and imposed a Community Corrections Order without any community service or treatment conditions.
